Every year the Bank celebrates International Anti-Corruption Day, which is observed in December to commemorate the signing of the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
The IDB Group’s 2015 commemoration featured a cartoon contest entitled “Towards a region with more integrity and transparency: images in the fight against corruption.” With criticism, humor and aesthetics, cartoons have been an effective tool for communicating ideas familiar to all cultures that break language barriers. The contest raised awareness about the role that both individuals and society play, in combating corruption and promoting transparency.
In 2019, the commemoration featured a photography contest entitled “Transparency: Improving Lives” in which OII, together with the other collaborating departments, sought to provide a creative space for IDB Group employees and family members across the region to visually capture how they view transparency and integrity (or the absence thereof). The event also featured a conversation between President Moreno and an investigative journalist who had directed the work leading to the Panama Papers disclosures.
