What motivated this initiative?

In times of social distancing and forced closure of museums as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, at the IDB we want to be part of the challenge of keeping cultural spaces open with the use of new technologies. Taking this crisis as a great opportunity for a digital revolution in these institutions, we want to accompany the network of museums in the region in their online mobilization by sharing resources, tools and knowledge.

What is OPEN MUSEUM and who is it for?

OPEN MUSEUM is an open space for experimentation. A laboratory to share knowledge resources, solutions and innovations, and a space to listen to the community in its needs and actions. The initiative is aimed primarily at professionals in the museum sector (civil servants, cultural managers, curators, curators, administrators, managers, etc.), as well as the entire creative ecosystem of cultural institutions (from artists to service providers).

The OPEN MUSEUM platform offers a continuously updated repository of resources, carefully curated to inspire and reimagine the region's museums from the perspective of innovation. In addition to networking opportunities, reflection articles and cutting-edge ideas, the platform offers tools for the digitization of collections and exhibitions, as well as a selection of good digital curation practices.
