Regional Initiatives
The IDB supports regional initiatives by producing information and knowledge for policy discussion and funding technical cooperation to strengthen regional integration. The Bank provides technical support to governments on trade and integration issues and conducts public outreach activities to promote regional integration.
Funding for initiatives is earmarked and initiatives are expected to have a pre-determined life span, after which they are either phased out (via a “sunset clause”) or incorporated into regular Bank business (mainstreamed), depending on their outcomes and nature.
Among the initiatives that currently receive IDB support are:
- Initiative for the Promotion of Regional Public Goods
- Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (IIRSA)
- Mesoamerica Project
- Regional Policy Dialogue
The Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America and the Mesoamerica Project initiatives support development projects in their respective geographic regions. Both initiatives support regional integration.
