Alternate Executive Director

Marcelo Daniel Barg

Argentina and Haiti

Marcelo Barg has more than 30 years of experience in senior management and strategic advisory support for governments and international financial institutions. He is an expert in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of financial products and other public sector operations. Until September 2022, he served as senior advisor for the Southern Cone chair at the World Bank.

He has a broad track record on issues of strategic development. Between 1989 and 1990, he was Director of Argentina’s National Forestry Institute (IFONA), and was subsequently named Secretary General of the National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (SENASA), a post he held until 1995. During the following years, he provided coordination and consulting services at multiple national and international institutions, such as the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Economy, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He was World Bank Country Representative in Chile until 2011, when he was named Minister of Agriculture and Technology of the Province of Mendoza. He subsequently served as Public Sector Manager for recognized financial institutions such as Puente Hnos. and Ad-Cap SA.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Universidad del Salvador and multiple post-graduate certificates from renowned international academic institutions. He has also contributed to a wide range of publications related to the economic and financial performance of Latin American countries such as Paraguay (Country Financial Accountability Assessment (CFAA), 2003), Chile (CFAA, 2005) Paraguay (Institutional and Governance Review (IGR), 2006), Argentina (IGR and CFAA, 2008), and Paraguay (Integrated Fiduciary Assessment, 2008).
