Director, Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism
Victoria Márquez-Mees, a citizen of Mexico, assumed duties as Director of the Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI) in August 2015. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Márquez-Mees served as the Interim Director of the Mechanism in addition to her duties as Executive Secretary for the MICI since April 2011.
Márquez-Mees has an extensive career in the philanthropic and social sectors in public and private entities in Mexico and abroad. Her areas of expertise are strategic and financial planning, fundraising, and the development of policies and procedures for effective performance management.
Prior to joining the MICI she served as Director of Social Investment for the Carlos Slim Institute of Health, a Mexican private foundation aimed at supporting the generation of health solutions for Latin America and the Caribbean.
She previously worked as a consultant in communications, institutional relations, and public relations in the StructurA group, which develops strategies for government relations.
She served as Director of Philanthropy in Mexico’s Beneficencia Pública, which channels health care resources to needy people. She was Operations Director of the British Council, the cultural arm of the British Embassy in Mexico that organizes technical and cultural cooperation activities. She has also worked in the area of training for nonprofit organizations in issues relating to institutional strengthening through the development of economic studies in the area of culture.
She graduated with honors in economics from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico, has a Masters in economics from the University of Essex, and carried out graduate studies at the London School of Economics.
