Secretary of the Bank
Martín Bès is the Secretary of the IDB Group.
Mr. Bès was previously a Special Advisor at the Office of the Presidency of the IDB Group, focusing on group-wide coordination issues and leading special projects.
Mr. Bès joined the Bank in 1993 as a country economist and later worked on fiscal issues. Between November 2000 and July 2012, he was an Alternate Executive Director for Argentina and Haiti on the Board of Executive Directors at both the Inter-American Development Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation. Between August 2012 and April 2014. He worked as a consultant at several multilateral development institutions in the areas of organizational design, strategic planning and fiscal studies.
Before joining the Bank, Mr. Bès worked in economic and financial planning at the Argentine affiliate of Bunge Corporation, a global agribusiness firm.
An Argentine citizen born in Denmark, Mr. Bès holds a Master’s degree in International Public Policy (MIPP) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a Master’s in Economics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. His undergraduate degree is in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
