Julie T. Katzman
Executive Vice President
Julie T. Katzman is the Executive Vice President of the Inter-American Development Bank. As COO, she is responsible for managing the Bank’s day-to-day operations and 4,000 staff, consultants and contractors working at headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in 28 field offices in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
A lifelong passion for development led Ms. Katzman to join the IDB Group in 2009 after a successful career as an investment banker. She first served as General Manager of the Multilateral Investment Fund, the Group’s development laboratory. In 2010 she was appointed Executive Vice President of the Bank. In that role, Ms. Katzman has pushed for a greater focus on results, innovation, diversity and inclusion both at the Bank and in its projects. Leveraging her private sector experience, she also played a key role in establishing IDB Invest as the Group’s sole private sector financing entity as well as in crafting new capital adequacy and risk policies for the Bank, enhancing its financial standing.
Ms. Katzman has earned numerous awards throughout her career. She has been recognized by Latin Trade magazine as one of Latin America’s Top 25 Businesswomen and by Global Diversity magazine as one of the Top 10 Influential Women in Global Diversity. A frequent speaker on development topics, Ms. Katzman serves on the Board of Directors of the MacArthur Foundation, the International Center for Research on Women and the Global Banking Alliance for Women. She is also on the Board of Advisors of the MIT Media Lab, the Instituto de Empresa business school in Madrid and the International Council on Women’s Business Leadership.
Ms. Katzman graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and earned a Master’s in Management with Distinction from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. She also attended American University in Cairo and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
