Executive Vice President
Brian D. O’Neill is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Inter-American Development Bank. Mr. O’Neill joined the IDB in January 2019 and manages the IDB’s overall operations with 4,000 people in 28 offices.
Prior to joining the IDB, Mr. O’Neill served in several senior leadership roles at Lazard, a leading financial advisory and asset management firm. He has extensive experience working with governments, local and multinational corporations, as well as financial institutions.
Mr. O’Neill served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Treasury from 2007 to 2009. For a five-month period in 2008, he served as acting U.S. Director at the IDB. Prior to that, he worked for J.P. Morgan Chase for over thirty years, where he held multiple leadership roles including chairman of investment banking for Latin America and Canada from 2001 to 2006.
A U.S. citizen, Mr. O’Neill lived and worked in South America for twelve years and has been based in Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Mr. O’Neill is a Senior Advisor to Lexington Partners and a board member of Emigrant Bank, Erste Bank Group and AquaVenture Holdings. He is a life member of the Council for Foreign Relations (CFR), a director of The Inter-American Dialogue and was for over 10 years a member of the advisory committee for the David Rockefeller Center for Latin America Studies at Harvard University.
Mr. O’Neill holds an undergraduate degree from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in business administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He also completed the Executive Education Program at the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
