Small Enterprise Investment Facility
The FOMIN Small Enterprise Investment Facility (SEIF) provides financing to broaden the participation of smaller entrepreneurs in their local economies.
This fund provides loans, equity investments and quasi-equity investments to smaller businesses and micro-enterprises through NGOs, domestic financial institutions and investment funds that target micro and smaller businesses.
The SEIF helps to promote small, early-stage investment in evolving, regulatory and economic climates in underdeveloped and volatile markets. In many of these countries, the private sector is not yet ready to finance businesses of this nature.
By creating 'first time" or demonstration funds that can generate positive investment returns, the facility provides the conditions to attract other investors to the country and/or sector.
The SEIF underscores FOMIN's role of taking measured risks that the market is not yet taking, as well as financing innovative demonstration projects that will provide information to the markets. Its long-run goal is to promote future participation by the private sector, or by other sustainable financing sources.
