Youth Development and Outreach Program
IDB Youth
There are 200 million people under the age of 30 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Never has the future of the region depended so much on a single generation.
Young people want to build stable democracies, sustainable economies and societies based on equity. The Bank created its IDB Youth program to support these goals and to more effectively respond to the needs of young people.
The program promotes the involvement of Latin American and Caribbean youth in the development process by providing young people with opportunities for leadership, community service, volunteerism, access to technology, and entrepreneurial development in the world of business and social action.
Its vision? An inter-American region where the voices and actions of young people are valued in all sectors of society as key resources in economic, political, and social processes.
IDB Youth builds strategic alliances with governments, corporations, and nongovernmental organizations to create a space where the role of youth in development will become more relevant.
Goals
- Equip young people to participate in their own personal development as well as in that of their communities
- Advocate to make youth development and involvement an integral part of the development process
- Incorporate youth development and involvement into IDB operations
- Promote inter-organizational and intersectoral alliances to foster youth development and involvement
