IDB-DC Solidarity Program

Over the past decades, the IDB has witnessed the steady growth of the Latino and Caribbean communities in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Most of them come from IDB member countries, and they have grown to more than 700,000 people, becoming the area's fastest-growing minority group. In 1998, in response to the social, economic and educational challenges these communities face, the Bank created the IDB-DC Solidarity Program. By doing this, the institution acknowledged its civic and corporate responsibility to be responsive to the community in which it resides and operates.

The IDB-DC Solidarity Program partners with local community-based organizations to promote education, health and economic development initiatives for them. The program supports these organizations with grants, volunteers and surplus equipment donations. In addition, it coordinates special drives and initiatives, such as the Share the Magic campaign, the IDB Community Volunteer Fair and the Llama y Vive DC campaign.
