Institutional Placement and Mandate
GED supports in the implementation of the IDB Operating Policy on Women in Development. The Unit is instrumental to the Bank and governments of LAC member countries in the inclusion of gender issues in IDB's policy dialogue and investments programs. The Unit provides policy and strategic guidance as well as technical assistance and training to mainstream a gender perspective in Bank supported activities. It identifies best practices and supports analytical work to establish the knowledge founding to gender in development work. It also acts as a hub to liaise with regional and international stakeholders on gender equality, including the women's movement, NGOs, and other multilateral organizations.
GED is placed at the Social Development and Public Governance Subdepartment of the Sustainable Development Department (SDS). SDS is a central department in charge of providing policy, strategy and technical guidance in relevant sectors to Bank operations.
