MEASURE DHS+ assists developing countries worldwide in the collection and use of data to monitor and evaluate population, health, and nutrition programs. Demographic and health surveys provide information on family planning, maternal and child health, child survival, HIV/AIDS/sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and reproductive health. In addition, DHS+ can assist with improving ongoing data collection efforts, such as health information systems, to efficiently meet information needs in a cost-effective manner.

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

The OECD has 30 member countries, active relationship with 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society.  It is best known for its publications and statistics on economic and social issues, ranging from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development, and science.  It has done extensive work to collect health accounts data and develop methodologies in its member countries. Its manual "A System of Health Accounts" discusses conceptual and methodological issues in the definition of health accounts and different classification criteria.

The Initiative has become part of the Joint Program of the United Nations for HIV/AIDS, and is co-sponsored by six UN agencies, including UNICEF, UNDP, UNFP, UNESCO, WHO, and World Bank.

United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS, is the main public international advocate for global action on the epidemic. It role is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response aimed at preventing transmission of HIV, providing care and support, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV/AIDS, and alleviating the impact of the epidemic.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The UNDP is the United Nations world network for development, that promotes change and links countries to knowledge, experience, and resources required to help their peoples improve their lives. The UNDP brings together governments, civil society, multinational corporations, and multilateral organizations, around issues of concern. It supports countries in their efforts to attain democratic governance, reduce poverty, prevent and overcome crises, protect energy sources and environment, and prevent the spread and reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS. In each of these five areas, the UNDP advocates for the protection of human rights and especially the empowerment of women.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

USAID is the principal U.S. agency that extends assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. It is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. USAID supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances U.S. foreign policy objectives through: economic growth, agriculture and trade; global health; and democracy, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance.

United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the lead U.S. federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships.

United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS)

Formerly known as Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), CMMS is the federal agency in charge of administering Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. The website contains statistical information about health expenditures in the US, as well as definitions and methodological information regarding the use of national health accounts in the USA.

United States Healthcare Costs and Utilization Project (HCUP)

The HCUP is a family of healthcare databases and related software tools and products developed through a federal-state-industry partnership and sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). HCUP databases bring together the data collection efforts of state data organizations, hospital associations, private data organizations, and the Federal government to create a national information resource of discharge-level health care data. Selected abstracts of studies that employ data from the HCUP can be found on the following page.
