Creating Health AccountsIdentifying the Country Team

While a variety of arrangements are possible, health accounts are usually conducted by an multi-agency team of individuals that includes policymakers, accountants, economists, and public health specialists.  Often, in addition to the Ministry of Health, the country's Statistical Office and the Central Bank participate in the process.  While the involvement of several institutions makes health accounts a challenge from the point of view of inter-institutional coordination, it renders the health accounts results more accurate.

In general, it is useful for all members of the team to participate in training activities and workshops before and during the process of generating health accounts estimates.  PAHO, IDB, USAID, and World Bank have in the past sponsored capacity-building workshops on how to conduct health accounts estimates, and will do so in the future.  For announcements of upcoming workshops please go to the Events sections.
