Updates From the LAC Health Accounts Steering Committee

Costa Rica has began work on Satellite Health
Accounts and has advanced in establishing classifications of
activities, products, institutional sectors (producers) and
transactions, as well as in developing a strategy of work to obtain
first results by the end of 2004.
August 2002 Costa Rica has had some studies of health
expenditures and financing, but no detailed health accounts.
Estimates for 1998 -using the OECD methodology- were produced by a
private research group. The Central Bank will develop health
accounts as part
of their National Accounts System (SNA 1993). They produced a
document on Satellite Accounts (HSSA). Costa Rica will be included
in PAHO's pre-RESSCA National Health Accounts meeting in 2002 for Central
