Justice Beyond Our Borders

Christina Biebesheimer and Carlos Cordovez (2000)

Justice beyond Our Borders looks at successful judicial systems and practices outside of Latin America that could serve as models for countries of the region. It examines large-scale judicial modernization processes as well as innovative systems of case management and legal defense for the poor. The book draws on applicable experiences for Latin America from across the globe, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States

Justice Delayed

Edited by Edmundo Jarquín and Fernando Carrillo (1998)

In Justice Delayed, leading authorities on law and economics from Latin America and the United States analyze the problems of the region's judicial sector and propose strategies for solving them. The authors show that just as Latin America's fledgling market economies must be based on guarantees for property rights, the future of democratic institutions in the region will depend on impartial and reliable systems of justice.

Justice and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

Carlos Cordovez editor (1997)

This publication reflects the proposals, reports and conclusions of the Seminar on Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean in the nineties--Challenges and opportunities, held in San Jose, Costa Rica, in February 1993, under the auspices of the Inter-American Development Bank. The event was a first step taken by the countries of the region to strengthen, with support from the Bank, their activities in this area
