FONTAGRO
The Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) is a consortium whose mission is to increase competitiveness, sustainable natural resources management, and poverty reduction in the rural sectors of the Americas by financing agricultural research that helps create and spread scientific knowledge, and ?public goods? technologies.
The Fund, created in 1998, is conformed by 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries and is sponsored by The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). The capital contribution from member countries currently stands at $34 million. The Fund has also received support from important entities like the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC), the Rockefeller Foundation, and the United States Department of Agriculture along with the Agricultural Research Center (USDA/ARS).
The Fund has made five calls and has received a total of 217 proposals on a wide range of topics. A total of 37 are actively supported by FONTAGRO in the region.
