Operational Policy on Indigenous Peoples and Strategy for Indigenous Development

On February 22, 2006, the Inter-American Development Bank approved its Operational Policy on Indigenous Peoples (OP-765) and its Strategy for Indigenous Development, culminating a two year process of consultations with government agencies, representatives of indigenous organizations and other interested parties, as well as internal preparation and approval processes within the IDB itself.The Report on the Consultation Process is available on this website. This new Operational Policy entered into effect on Agust 22nd, 2006. Operational Guidelines to facilitate the implementation of the Policy were approved on October 26th, 2006.
We would like to thank the many participants in the consultation meetings and in the electronic consultation as well as the members of the Indigenous Advisory Council and those who sent us their comments by mail. All of these inputs have been very useful inthe production of this important new normative framework for the Bank.
