This document sintetizes the consultations to health authorities about health trends and perspectives in Latin America and Caribbean Region. These consultations were conducted by SDS/SOC during the end of 2004 in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), San Jose (Costa Rica) and Barbados. As a result of the consultation process, this document presents the main heatlh issues and challenges faced by Latin American and Caribbean Countries. The paper also summarized the opinion of health governments about how the IDB could meet the country needs regarding health policies and investments.

This paper is available only in Spanish.

This working paper is being published with the sole objective of contributing to the debate on a topic of importance to the region, and to elicit comments and suggestions from interested parties. This paper has not gone through the Department's peer review process or undergone consideration by the SDS Management Team. As such, it does not reflect the official position of the Inter-American Development Bank.
