The third edition of Investing in Gender Equality presents some IDB projects that exemplify good work in the integration of gender considerations in their design. This publication has several objectives. First, it highlights the contributions of project team members who are aware of the importance of gender issues and of the opportunities to improve gender equality through development investment. Second, it creates a demonstration effect by presenting project designs that can inform other projects in similar areas. Last, as the Bank moves forward with the implementation of its Gender Mainstreaming Action Plans (GAP), the first of which covers the years 2003 to 2005, it offers a group of 18 projects that could be helpful in understanding what it takes to move from good design to successful project implementation. We therefore hope to attract attention to the execution of these projects and their gender features.
