This working document, which is part of a series on the situation of indigenous peoples in several countries of the region, presents a summary and analysis of the available information on the demographic, socio-economic, socio-cultural and legal condition of indigenous and afroecuadorian peoples, as well as an overview of the political situation of the indigenous movement in Ecuador. This is the basis for a series of policy recommendations for the government and the Bank on how to promote improvements in the living conditions for this population.
