By Carlos César Perafán (01/99, IND-106, Es) See also Indigenous Peoples and Community Development
This best practice paper describes how through a participatory research methodology the impacts of illicit drug production and trade affect the different indigenous peoples of Colombia. A profound understanding of the economic and cultural rationale of the different ethnic groups resulted in a successful process of negotiation and conversion to alternative crops that breaks the vicious cycle of dependency and restores the communities sense of self-worth and balance.
