Making State Institutions more Responsible and Accountable

Institutional reforms must be introduced to help achieve the goal of strong institutions, strengthen civil society organizations, and encourage the communities to participate in the public policy dialogue, specially those groups that have been traditionally exclude (such as women, indigenous populations, afro-latins and the poor in general). Reforms are also needed in educational, judicial and health care services; particularly to improve administrative and national assessment capacities so as to increase the functional responsibility of the public administration and make it more aware of the needs of the poor. The State, Governance and Civil Society Division in the Bank is implementing important initiatives to make state institutions more responsible and accountable to the poor.
