Questionnaire proposal to measure the impact of shocks on household welfare and behavior
The ISLC/MECOVI program, with inputs from researchers and academics, is working on the development of innovative and effective questionnaire modules that are intended to provide guidance to countries interested in investigating particular issues, i.e. criminality, the impact of natural shocks, etc. The Measuring Risks and Risk Coping Strategies module is one such questionnaire. Parts of it have been used in the case of Nicaragua to assess the impact of the hurricane Mitch of 1998. Also, a modified version of this module is expected to be implemented in Peru as part of the 1999 household survey. The proposed questionnaire intends to serve as a guide or a reference for the design of specific questionnaires related to this issue in the countries of the region.
