Seminar on Local Economic Development

(10/01, SDS/MSM, En, Es)

The seminar's main purposes were:

(i) to present the results of a study carried out by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Division on cases of Local/Regional Economic Development in Latin America and the Caribbean; and

(ii) to open a discussion on how the Bank could implement specific interventions related to that topic.

The IDB has recently adopted a formal strategy on sub-national development, whose goal is to promote economic development and entrepreneurship at the sub-national level as ways to reduce poverty and improve social and living standards. In this endeavor, the seminar will explore how a multilateral bank can foster the adoption of policies and the execution of programs that can improve regional productive capacity, through a holistic approach, working with national and sub-national governments, jointly with the private sector.
