Inter-Institutional Cooperation Agreements and Activities.
Following
is a list of the international and civil society organizations
with which the Division is working towards technical and financial
collaboration in the dissemination and implementation of information
and communication technologies towards the social and economic
development of the borrowing member countries of the Region.
1. European
Commission
The Bank,
through the Division is finalizing the formal agreement with the
Information Society Technologies
Program (IST) of the European Commission for the implementation
of the Regional Technical Cooperation "Pilot Program for the Diffusion
of Information Technologies in Social Programs". This parallel
financing and cooperation agreement will open the doors for further
cooperation between the Bank and the European Commission in information
society in the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
2. Ibero-American
Science and Technology Education Consortium
The Bank and
the Ibero-American Science and
Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC) signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) on December 1, 1999. The objective of the
MOU is to establish an arrangement for institutional cooperation
between ISTEC and SDS/SDP/ICT in order to contribute to the ability
of Bank member countries to acquire and improve their technological
and scientific capacity towards the improvement of human and capital
resources and the economic and social development of the Region.
This agreement
is targeted at, among others: (a) undertaking joint project development
in the area of information and communication technology for the
benefit of Bank member countries in the Latin American and Caribbean
Region; (b) organizing and encouraging participation in events,
seminars, conferences, round tables, workshops and/or training
activities in information and communication technologies for development
organized jointly and/or by either organization; (c) identifying
opportunities for cooperation and sharing of experts in the design
and implementation of technical cooperation operations; and (d)
exchanging relevant information and/or publications with respect
to developments in the application of information and communication
technologies and science and technology.
3. Inter-American
Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD)
SDS/SDP/ICT
and the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development
(IACD) of the Organization of American
States (OAS) have initiated conversations towards the identification
of collaboration and cofinancing opportunities in the area of
information and communication technology for development in the
areas of human capital development and digital democracy.
