OECD
Global Forum on Policy Frameworks for the Knowledge Economy:
ICTs, Innovation and Human Resources
16-17 September 2002 Brasilia, Brazil
The
Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
will host a Global Forum on Policy Frameworks for the Knowledge
Economy:
ICTs, Innovation and Human Resources, in Brasilia on 16-17
September 2002.
The event is co-sponsored by the Government
of Brazil, and the Inter-American Development Bank and the
World Bank InfoDev Conference Scholarship Fund are
providing additional support.
This Global Forum is one of a series of outreach
initiatives for policy dialogue organized under the auspices
of the OECD
Center for Co-operation with Non-Members.
Though the focus of this event is on global issues and will be of interest
to countries from all regions, experts will have the opportunity to examine
challenges specific to Latin America within the global context.
The Forum will concentrate on the main policy areas that
together make up a coherent strategy for the development
of a knowledge-based economy, such as
information technologies including telecommunications and e-business;
science, technology and innovation; and skills, education and
employment. It will
focus on the way such an integrated approach links to
overall economic and social
goals.
The Forum sessions will present the experiences and lessons
of both OECD and non-OECD economies.

Digital
Convergence, Regulation and Sustainable Development: The Role
of the Inter-American Development Bank
Digital convergence trends reinforce the efforts of countries
in Latin America and the Caribbean to translate their political
will into actions that expand their knowledge economy — an
essential foundation for the process of sustainable economic development.
Since digitalisation, the capacity to carry audio, image and
data signals over the same line has blurred the distinction
among various
media. Countries and development institutions, such as the
Inter-American Development Bank, are challenged to address
the deployment of these
technologies in a comprehensive manner.
