ICT for Development Division Strategy

The Inter-American Development Bank has elaborated a set of Strategic Guidelines for the dissemination of information and communication technologies (ICT) for development, named Connecting the majority, whose objective is to guide the Bank's action and increase its effectiveness in the dissemination of ICT for economic and social development in the Latin America and the Caribbean countries.

Connecting the Majority establishes priorities for Bank action to incorporate ICT into development initiatives in borrowing member countries in a manner consistent with the Bank's strategic framework. This document provides a recent assessment of the dissemination and usage of ICT in Latin American and the Caribbean, highlights the lessons learned from experience in the region and the Bank's experience in ICT-for-development initiatives, and sets forth action priorities for the strategy, which are classified into the following areas: creation of an environment that fosters the dissemination and use of ICT, modernization of the State, competitiveness, social development, regional integration, and environment and natural resources. Lastly, Connecting the Majority describes the options for the Bank's services and the implementation guidelines, with a proposal for new tools for supporting ICT dissemination.
