Environment and Natural Resources Notes
Letter From the Editor
You will notice a few changes in the second issue of the newsletter. We are now publishing English and Spanish versions, we've upgraded the paper quality and refined the layout. Despite the cosmetic changes, the intention is the same. Foremost, we want to disseminate good practices and fresh perspectives on environment and natural resource management applicable to project and policy work. Also, we would like to inform you of recent publications, events, workshops and web sites that may be useful for your daily work.
This issue contains a mix of articles in terms of thematic area and geographic location. The first article discusses the promotion of energy efficiency in the context of the IDB program Sustainable Markets for Sustainable Energy (SMSE), and exemplified by project work in Argentina. The second article showcases a regional development project in Panama, which skillfully integrated local populations into project design to mitigate social and environmental problems such as land conflicts and unsustainable land use practices.
Finally, we are featuring a short summary of a new IDB policy strategy for coastal and marine resource. The first of its kind for Latin America, this strategy takes a forward-looking vision of the management of resources both in terms of its utilization and conservation in diverse sectors such as transport, fishing, and tourism.
