Women in Development Operational Policy
The Women in Development Operating Policy (1987) recognizes that development is a process that must fully involve both men and women. The policy commits the IDB to assist its member countries in their efforts go bring about the fuller integration of women into all stages of the development process and improvement in their socioeconomic situation. This policy is by its very nature multisectoral.
Over the past decade, the IDB has gradually expanded the focus of its Women in Development Policy to encompass a broader commitment to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. To reflect on this approach, in May of 2005, the Women in Development Unit (WID) changed its name to Gender Equality in Development (GED).
The Policy calls for periodic progress reports to update the Board of Executive Directors on its implementation. Reports to the Board of Executive Directors.
