Sexual and Reproductive Health and Health Sector Reform in Latin America and the Caribbean: Challenges and Opportunities, explores the convergence of the health sector reform processes and the improvement of sexual and reproductive health in Latin America and the Caribbean. It includes the results of three IDB financed sub-regional meetings held in Mexico, Ecuador and Brazil in 1999, expressly for this purpose. Topics covered by the publication include service provision and quality, financing, decentralization, legislation, and attention to indigenous people and populations in extreme poverty. The document presents the fundamental concepts of sexual and reproductive health, its status in the region and the current reform processes. It also provides examples of reform projects that include specific activities in sexual and reproductive health. The book is the result of a collaborative effort between the Population Council?s LAC Regional Office, the National Institute of Public Health (Instituto National de Salud Pública, Mexico) and the IDB.
