Disability Policies, Statistics, and Strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean: A Review
This study is an attempt to review the current status of inclusive disability policies, statistics, and strategies in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC).Discussion focuses on six key elements: (1) Conceptual framework, including key definitions, for disability analysis; (2) United Nations (UN) commitment to equalize opportunities for people with disabilities; (3) Ramifications of the UN commitment on regional and national policies in LAC; (4) Summary of current knowledge on prevalence and causes of disability; (5) Economic and social costs of disability; and (6) Key characteristics of inclusive policies and strategies.
