History and popular perceptions of Latin America have tended to emphasize the presence and historic importance of the region's major ethnic populations - Aztecs,Maya, Quechua, Aymara - and also the wide range of indigenous populations that live within, for example, the Amazon basis. Historical and contemporary studies abound on these peoples and indeed the evidence and arqueological remains of their civilizations are main factors that draw visitors to the region.
