Cities of the Future
Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) has carved out a solid market niche for itself in the world of management expertise for large scale corporate clients, particularly from the private business sector. Less well known is the firm's recent bid to move into the public management universe of city and metropolitan governments.
Earlier this year, PwC released a publication, "Cities of the future -- global competition and local leadership" that consolidates its strategic thinking in this area, attempting to apply the firm's long standing expertise in private corporate management to the complex challenges of urban management. The lead author of this publication, Jan Sturesson, along with Dario Quiroga and Carlos Rossin (Latin American market), presented key findings and recommendations of the book, along with examples of case applications in: financial management and governance (La Paz, Bolivia); transparency through cost management (Jundiai, Brazil); urban competitiveness (Dubai, Emirates); process improvement (Guayaquil, Ecuador); and benchmarking (Cracov, Poland).
Eduardo Rojas (SDS/SOC) contrasted the PwC view with the Bank's own current strategic thinking in urban development, as defined in the recent document, "Supporting the urban agenda"
