Access to Markets and Governance for Poverty Reduction Trust Fund

The Markets and Governance for Poverty Reduction Trust Fund (M&GPR TF) was established by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) with a contribution of nearly US$6.5 million from the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The Fund is intended to: (i) integrate accountability and a participatory and rights-based approach into IDB policy and operational approaches to governance; and, (ii) support the IDB to promote increased access of poor men and women to markets and international trade.

The Fund's purpose is to finance initiatives that encourage innovation, knowledge generation, lessons learning and dissemination in the areas of governance, markets and trade.

The M&GPR TF has two main programs with specific areas of intervention:

Responsive and Accountable Public Sector Management and Political Systems - PSPS: (i) country and institutional IDB strategies; (ii) participation, representation and political systems; (iii) fiscal and budgetary governance; and (iv) generation, accessibility and use of evidence and data.

Pro-poor Access to Markets and International Trade - LAMIT: (i) country and institutional IDB strategies; (ii) pro-poor market access; and (ii) trade and poverty.

The M&GPR TF encourages initiatives that facilitate better targeting of IDB strategies and operations towards the needs of poor people and excluded groups of the region.

The Fund finances the following activities: (i) Support to the development of country, regional and sector strategies; (ii) Support to the design and execution of loans and technical cooperation projects; (iii) Strategic analytical, policy and sector work; and (iv) Institutional strengthening and capacity building.
