The purpose of this "Guide" is relatively narrow. It is intended to reflect a gradual process of consultation and discussion to reach industry-wide agreement on the definitions of a limited set of indicators measuring the financial condition, performance and risk of microfinance institutions. It is also meant to help practitioners select and use these indicators. For each indicator, the Guide presents the proposed formula, clarifies the terms that goes into the formula, interprets its meaning and significance, identifies potential pitfalls in its use, and provides benchmark reference values for 29 Latin American microfinance institutions.
