Micro Enterprise, Development Review Vol.2 No.1
By SDS/MSM (08/99, En, Es)
This issue of the Review explores the use of benchmark indicators in the context of microfinance. Established benchmark indicators provide a reference against which the performance and characteristics of individual institutions can be measured. They help the management of the institution to identify relative weaknesses and strengths in their operations. They also enable potential investors, creditors and donor to make more informed decision regarding how they should allocate their resources. The article provides examples of several benchmark indicators and, based on on-site assessments of 17 leading Latin American microfinance institutions, values for those indicators.
