These guidelines issued in 1990 by the Bank?s Environmental Committee (precursor to the Environment and Social Impact Committee) provide operational guidance to Bank staff and borrowers on the identification, guiding principles and actions to avoid, mitigate or compensate potential negative impacts of Bank financed projects involving involuntary resettlement or affecting indigenous and other vulnerable groups in fragile environments.
