Indigenous Peoples and Poverty Reduction: A Case Study of Guatemala

By Roger Plant (12/98, En, Es)

The present case study is part of a larger research project undertaken for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), concerning the issue of indigenous peoples and poverty reduction in Latin America. An overview paper has already been prepared for the Latin American region as a whole, aiming to clarify some conceptual issues and to identify the main policy dilemmas and concerns in this area (Roger Plant, "Issues of Indigenous Poverty and Development", consultancy report prepared for the Inter-American Development Bank, April 1998).

This working paper is being published with the sole objective of contributing to the debate on a topic of importance to the region and to elicit comments and suggestions from interested parties. The paper has not gone through the Department?s peer review process or undergone consideration by the SDS Management Team. As such, it does not represent the official position of the Inter-American Development Bank. Please direct your comments to: anned@anned.org.
