Infrastructure

The Inter-American Development Bank supports infrastructure through a wide variety of activities and tools to develop new schemes to provide efficient infrastructure services across the region. Latin American countries have brought about important reforms in infrastructure services based on both private sector participation for enhancing internal efficiency and competition for increasing consumer welfare. Consequently, infrastructure services have evolved from monopoly and public ownership settings lacking specific regulations, towards scenarios with private participation with competition and regulation playing complementary roles. The Inter-American Development Bank offers tools to address the new challenges of infrastructure provision. Making loans and guarantees available to private sector infrastructure providers, technical assistance to find efficient solutions for private-public partnership, and research programs for identifying new challenges in infrastructure sectors are the focus of Bank activities in infrastructure sectors.
