The Inter-American Development Bank, with the collaboration of the Pan-American Health Organization, organized a ministerial meeting on Environmental Management in Latin America and the Caribbean in Washington, D.C. on 17 and 18 September, 1998.

The main objective of the meeting was to exchange ideas and discuss experiences related to the improvement of environmental issues and management in Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting focused on the following three critical themes: institutional challenges, policy instruments, and financing. The participants analyzed the different models used to improve environmental management in Latin America and the Caribbean, and exchanged information on successful methods.
