El turismo en América Latina y la experiencia del BID

This publication highlights the relevance of tourism in the international agenda on sustainable development and includes data about the tourism demand and the contribution of tourism to the economy of the borrowing countries, as well as a brief diagnosis of the tourism sector in the region. Additionally, for the first time, it presents a summary of the activities of the IDB group in tourism between 1969 and 2005 including some lessons learned.

Its main objective is to create awareness about the importance of tourism in the countries of the region and the challenges they face to compete in a global market. The document summarizes the Bank's activity in the sector that is scattered among its different regional departments and divisions.
