The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has created this privacy statement to demonstrate its commitment to privacy. The following discloses the information gathering and dissemination practices for this Web site: Inter-American Development Bank.

Scope of this Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement covers the IDB's treatment of personally identifiable information that the IDB collects from users of its Web site. This Statement does not apply to the practices of Web sites by organizations not owned or controlled by the IDB, including external Web pages to which IDB Web pages maintain links.

Information Collection and Use

The IDB respects the privacy of users who visit each its Web site. No effort is made to identify individuals without their knowledge. The following policies are in effect for all of the Web pages owned and operated by the IDB.

When a visitor requests pages on the IDB's Web site, our Web servers automatically recognize the browser's domain name and IP address. The IDB collects domain names and other information specific to the use of the site (such as date and time of access and the user's path through the site, for example) in order to help diagnose problems with its server and to aggregate information on what pages users access. This information is collected for statistical purposes.

Occasionally, the IDB asks users to provide their e-mail addresses, mailing address, preferences or other personal information on registration or order forms, for the purpose of a survey or to provide other additional services. Whenever the identity of a visitor is recorded, we will clearly indicate the purpose of the request before the information is requested. Unless expressly indicated otherwise, if users choose to supply their personal contact information via an online form, they may receive further communications from the IDB. Users may request not to be contacted by the IDB by sending an e-mail to roundtable@iadb.org.

The IDB may use cookies to deliver content specific to users' interests. It may also use cookies to save users' passwords so they don't have to be re-entered each time users visit the IDB's site. Users will be notified when cookies are used and may choose whether or not they will allow passwords may be saved on their machines in the form of a cookie. Any information collected via cookies is used for statistical purposes, as well as to help the Bank identify individual users and their interests.

When users register to participate in IDB interactive forums, their names or aliases are recorded solely for the purpose of maintaining his or her own account within the forums. No effort is made to identify individuals who participate in forums or to monitor their activity in any way. However, since every IDB forum is moderated, all messages posted to forum boards will be reviewed by IDB staff prior to posting.

The IDB uses information collected about users of its Web site for three general purposes: to customize the content users see on web pages, to fulfill user requests for certain products or services, and to occasionally contact users about upcoming events at the IDB, new publications and products, or other items, based upon their stated interests.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Unless expressly stated otherwise on an information collection web tool (for example, an order or registration form), the IDB generally does not sell or disclose to third parties (i.e. persons outside the IDB Group) any specific personal identifying information about the users of its Web site.

The IDB generally sends personally identifying information about users to other organizations or people when:

Users have given their consent to share the information;

The IDB must share the information with organizations or individuals in order to provide the product or service that the user has requested. (Unless the IDB informs users otherwise, these organizations or individuals do not have any right to use the personally identifying information that the IDB provides to them beyond what is necessary to assist the IDB.);

The IDB responds to subpeonas, court orders or legal processes; or

The IDB finds that users' actions on its web site violate the IDB's Terms and Conditions, or any of its usage guidelines for specific products or services.

The IDB reserves the right to disclose aggregate information about web site usage and user demographics in a manner that does not reveal users' personal identities.

Ability to Edit and Delete Personal Identifying Information and Preferences

Users may edit or delete their personal identifying information or preferences at any time by accessing the Web page on which they originally entered their information or by e-mail to roundtable@iadb.org.

The linked sites are not under the control of the IDB and the IDB is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any linked site, or for any link contained in a linked site. Public Forums

Nothing herein shall constitute or be considered to be a limitation upon or a waiver of the privileges and immunities of the IDB, which are specifically reserved.
