Sharing knowledge and experiences with the IDB Group

The IDB participates with great interest and enthusiasm with the private sector in the development of specific technologies and innovations in almost all economic areas, always focused on the generation of high-impact projects on the development of economies and families in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The achievements are substantial. Research and projects led-by Opportunities for the Majority Initiative (OM) have shown that is a good business to invest in market-based solutions that impact positively on the lives of low-income families. The support of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) to the acquisition of better management tools are helping to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs in Latin America. The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) resources and intelligence have contributed to establish a regional microfinance industry whose creativity is globally recognized.

In addition to these areas, a functional tool for the replication of successful initiatives is the IDB's Knowledge and Learning Sector, which disseminates knowledge and training and helps develop partnerships and exchanges of knowledge with organizations and networks.

The IDB Group often renews its platform of tools and instruments for sharing knowledge. At present, the areas where the IDB Group share knowledge and experiences include:

Majority Markets

The Opportunities for the Majority Initiative (OM) seeks to build a strong intellectual leadership and encourage members of the public and private sectors to invest in innovative projects to encourage the development of low-income markets as a platform for profitable ventures and initiatives with high social benefits.

To achieve this goal OM Initiative organizes and participates in conferences, round tables, seminars and workshops discussing different topics key to the base of the pyramid, such as investment in affordable housing, food security through private investment, development platforms for microfinance, and creating new business models with high economic and social returns.
