Quality of Life
Quality of life depends on a wide rage of factors. Income level is only one of these factors. Other issues such as health, security and workplace conditions could play a central role in explaining an individual's quality of life. The international research agenda on this subject has advanced in recent years, but there are still many questions to be aswered. The 2009 Economic and Social Progress Report (IPES 2009) will approach this subject as it relates to Latin America and the Caribbean on an empirical basis. Using recent and new types of data, the report will explore people's perception of their quality of life and its relation with other aspects of daily life. The IPES will be based on research conducted in the Research Department (RES) and three research network projects currently underway:
The IPES 2009 will cover the relationship between quality of life and income, health, education, work-place conditions, urban infrastructure, security and political participation. This IPES will offer a new approach to public policymaking in the region that will take into account the quality of life of people in Latin America and the Caribbean as the main goal.
