Consultative Group for the Reconstruction and Transformation of Central America

"reconstruction must not be at the expense of transformation"

Nicaragua

The Consultative Group meeting for Nicaragua, hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank was held in Washington, D.C. at IDB headquarters on May 23-24, 2000.

The meeting was attended by over 45 delegations representing bilateral donors, multilateral lending institutions, U.N. agencies, and high level representatives of the Nicaraguan Government and a broad spectrum of members of Nicaragua’s civil society.

This meeting for Nicaragua was a country-specific follow-up to the Consultative Group meeting held in Stockholm, Sweden in May 1999, co-hosted by the Government of Sweden and the IDB, which reviewed the National Reconstruction and Transformation Plans of each of the Central American countries hit by hurricane Mitch in October 1998, the worst natural disaster in the history of Central America, resulting in enormous physical destruction and in the loss of thousands of lives.
