Tietê Várzea Program - Request II

Country: Brazil

Reception date: July, 29 2016

Current Status: Closed

Requesters:

A Brazilian citizen.

Summary of the Request

The Request informs that residents of Vila Aymoré, Sao Paulo and Vila Any, Guarulhos in the municipality of Sao Paulo, affected by the “Varzeas del Tiete Program” (BR-L1216) demand compliance with the Resettlement Master Plan which is allegedly not being complied with. They allege that the resettlement plans specific to each municipality have not been produced and add that even though the Resettlement Master Plan provides for formal participation of the population, no public consultation has taken place to date. They also point out that the resettlement alternatives offered such as the sale of dwelling units at a subsidized cost and/or support for temporary rental solutions are clearly insufficient as they fail to consider the needs of the impacted population. Finally they request that resettlement proposal made complies with the Resettlement Policy of the Bank (OP-710).
