MIF to present in Madrid new index on public-private partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean

At an Oct. 26 news conference at PromoMadrid

The Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) will launch a new index on public-private partnerships (PPPs) for infrastructure projects in Latin America and the Caribbean at a news conference to be held on Monday, October 26 in Madrid, Spain.

The index, known as the Infrascope, was commissioned by the MIF and developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit as a tool to help governments and potential investors analyze Latin American and Caribbean countries’ capacity to implement PPPs in the transportation and water sectors.

Governments in this region frequently rely on PPPs to involve the private sector in infrastructure projects, a mechanism that allows countries to retain ownership of assets and share the financial and operational risks of such ventures.

The news conference, which will be held at 10:30 am at the offices of PromoMadrid (Calle de Suero de Quiñones, 34), will feature presentations by MIF Deputy Manager Fernando Jiménez-Ontiveros, PromoMadrid Chairman Genaro González Palacios and EIU Research Manager Vanesa Sánchez, who led the team that developed the Infrascope.

The press event will be held on the eve of the conference Lessons Learned from the Spanish Experience in Public-Private Partnerships for Infrastructure, which will take place on Tuesday, October 27 at Madrid’s NH Eurobuilding hotel (Padre Damián, 23).

Sponsored by PromoMadrid and the Spanish export promotion agency ICEX, the conference will bring together more than 100 participants from the public and private sector from Latin America and Spain, as well as delegates from multilateral development agencies.
