1996 Initial Working Plan *

I. Seminars and Meetings  

  1. Ten or eleven IDB Dialogue meetings
  2. Participation in the Lisbon Non-Regional Countries Representatives' Meeting
  3. Participation in the Governor's Meeting in Buenos Aires. Following that meeting, the undersigned will lead a group of Japanese businessmen to visit Brazil, Peru and Mexico.
  4. Participation in exchange of information meetings with Japan's Export-Import Bank and OECF to be held respectively in Washington and Tokyo in the spring and fall of 1996
  5. Seminar on Civil Society and Development in Asia, Japan, Latin America to be held on July 5 - 6, 1996, in Nagoya
  6. Seminar on Central America to be held in Tokyo during late October or early November
  7. Two semi-annual Goods and Services Providers Meetings with business leaders and academics in Tokyo. The Latin American macro-economy and business opportunities will be presented by senior bankers. These meetings will have a structure similar to those held monthly by External Relations in Washington.

II. Publications  

  1. Publication of 6 issues of The IDB Japanese version
  2. Partial funding of the publication of Professor Hosono's book on research on Latin American internal crossborder investments

III. Participation in Projects

  1. Participation in projects such as the Panama Trust Fund, the Peru Financial Institutions Strengthening Technical Cooperation, and Argentinian automobile industry workers' training

IV. Public Relations

  1. Transfer of a data base from Washington to provide information to the Japanese business community

V. Recruiting

  1. With respect to recruiting activities, presentations are to be made in selected universities of our Young Professionals Program, starting with a meeting at ECFA on February 5 and followed by a Nagoya University meeting in April.
