In
1999, the IDB established the Japan Program, with most of its
financing coming from the Japanese government, to strengthen links
between Japan and the rest of East Asia, Latin America and the
Caribbean. The Program designs, implements and funds activities
to promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices
in development. Its core activities are small-scale untied, nonreimbursable
technical cooperation projects such as pilot projects, training
and institutional strengthening, policy research and comparative
studies, publications and the Japan-IDB Scholarship Program. The
Japan Program is administered by the Bank's Integration and Regional
Programs Department.
